Commercial Accounts

Commercial accounts are required to install and maintain a testable backflow prevention assembly on the customers side of the water meter. The type of business and water use are factors used to determine what type of backflow assembly is required. Most common is a Double Check Valve Assembly (DCVA). In cases where higher level of protection is needed, the customer is required to install a Reduced Pressure Principle Assembly (RPZ). All backflow assemblies must be tested when installed, repaired and annually.

Backflow Testing and Certification

Your local water company will notify you about annual backflow preventer testing and recertification. The current ratepayer on file will receive this notice. We make it easy. Give us a call to schedule your testing. We handle and submit all paperwork to the proper authorities and provide the customer a copy. Failure to comply could lead to receiving a letter of non-compliance and lead to dis-continuation of service.

Repair or Replacement of Backflow Assemblies

We service all types and sizes all makes and models of Backflow Assemblies. If an assembly fails during the field test, we will attempt to make a repair at the time. If the assembly is beyond repair, then we will have to discuss a new installation. We do keep in stock most replacement parts and materials.

Expansion Tank Installation and Service

Backflow Preventer Valves create a closed system which requires an expansion tank to absorb water hammer and thermal expansion.

Water Service Line Locating, Leak Repair and Electronic Leak Detection

If you see water running in your yard, see water leaking through your cellar walls near the entrance of your service line or receive a notice from your water company that you may have a water line leak, give Weaver Backflow a call . We can help you locate and repair your leak as well as install a new waterline if needed. These signs could also be an indicator of a sewer line leak.

Backflow Devices:

Residential Dual Check (RDC)

Residential homes are protected by a non-testable dual check valve. This valve is located on the customers side of the water meter and allows water to flow from the public system (distribution) into the customers plumbing but does not allow the water to flow back into the public system (distribution).

Residential Dual Check

Dual Check Valve Assembly (DCVA)

DC is designed to protect the potable water system from pollutants when an abnormality in the system causes backpressure or back siphonage.

Reduced Pressure Principal Assembly (RPZ)

RPZ is designed to protect the potable water system from pollutants and contaminants when an abnormality in the system causes backpressure or back siphonage. The RPZ consist of a chamber or zone in which there is a hydraulically operated relief valve for venting to the atmosphere. A pressure loss through the device may be expected to average between 10 and 20 PSI, depending on the size and flow rate of the device.

Definitions:

Pollutant
Pollutant is considered a low hazard. This could cause aesthetic problems: taste, color, odor.

Contaminant
Contaminant is considered a high hazard. Could cause illness or death.

Backpressure
Backpressure occurs when downstream line pressure becomes greater than the supply pressure. Example: Thermal expansion, pumps, elevated piping.

Back Siphonage
Back Siphonage occurs when the pressure at any point in the water supply system drops to zero pressure and creates a vacuum.

Example: Pumps, water main break, elevated piping.

Property Owners Responsibility:

The approved Backflow Prevention Assembly is installed, owned, tested and maintained by the owner/ratepayer. Your water company requires the Backflow Prevention Assembly to be installed at the service connection where a possibility of a cross connection and backflow of contaminants exist. Your water company will inform you as to what backflow assembly is required based on a survey of the hazards at your property. This program is based on The Federal Clean Water Act of 2001, starting at the Federal level onto DEP and the PUC and water companies/authorities.
